Entalpa vs IBM DOORS

DOORS proved that locked, traceable requirements work. Entalpa takes that idea and serves it to the agent writing the code.

What IBM DOORS is

IBM's requirements management family — classic DOORS and the newer DOORS Next inside the Engineering Lifecycle Management suite. It is the long-standing standard where requirements traceability is a certification requirement: aerospace, defence, automotive, medical. Deep, rigorous, tightly integrated with the rest of the IBM suite, and correspondingly heavy to configure. Its category mindshare has been declining year on year but remains among the largest.

What IBM DOORS does well

  • Three decades of proving that formal requirements management works. Every idea in this category is downstream of it.
  • Certification support that nothing newer matches, in industries where that is the whole question.
  • Handles requirement sets at a scale — and with a formality — that no AI-native tool has been tested at.
  • Deep integration across the IBM engineering suite for organisations already there.

Where the two differ

No agent on the other end

DOORS was designed for engineers at workstations. There is no MCP surface, so an AI agent reads a DOORS requirement only if someone builds the bridge. Entalpa's primary consumer is the agent.

Adoption cost

DOORS is an organisational decision with configuration, training and licensing behind it. Entalpa is a free account and one command in your agent.

Same idea about locking

Baselining requirements so they cannot drift is a DOORS idea, and it is right. Our version is narrower and enforced differently: a locked requirement is filtered out of the set handed to the model before generation runs.

Which one fits

Pick IBM DOORS if

Safety-critical or certified development. This is not a close call — use the tool the auditors already accept.

Pick Entalpa if

You want the discipline without the programme: structured requirements, locking, traceability and export, adopted this afternoon.

Questions this raises

Can Entalpa import from DOORS?

Entalpa exports ReqIF, the interchange standard DOORS also speaks. Import is not the direction we have built out — talk to us if that is what you need.

Try it against whatever you are using now

Connect Entalpa to the agent you already run, point it at a real project, and see whether a locked requirement set changes anything. Free to start, no card, and reading or writing your project over MCP never spends credits.
